Easter
Senhor Ecce Homo
This is an Easter festival featuring a spooky procession of barefoot torch-bearing hooded penitents through the town streets.

Pilgrimage to Bom Jesus
During Holy Week penitents climb the Baroque staircase on their hands and knees. The steps in fact symbolize the fourteen stations of the cross.

June
Sao Joao Festival
This festival takes place on the 23rd and 24th of June in honour of Saint John; celebrations include dancing, illumination, poems to loved ones in pots of basil, music and processions.
