Carnival (Funchal)
The Carnival season starting in February marks the beginning of Lent. Celebrations include a costume parade on Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) and a mask ball. Each year, the Carnival is based on a different theme. But whatever the theme, the enjoyment continues long after the procession has ended as participants and spectators party late into the night and early morning.

Madeira Island Open
The PGA European Tour visits Portugal's Campo de Golfe do Santo da Serra for the Madeira Island Open.

April
Flower Festival (Funchal)
Flower exhibitions and parades take place every April to celebrate the end of Spring and the large variety of exotic flowers that grow in Madeira.

June-August
Summer Festivals
Throughout the summer months Madeira is alive with celebrations, from the festival in honour of the Patron Saints to many gastronomic events such as the Feast of Nossa Senhora do Monte in Funchal and
 the Madeira Wine Rally in August.
