Salema, located on the southern coast, is one of Portugal’s last tiny fishing villages.
Salema sits approximately 15 miles east of “Land’s End”, Europe’s south-westernmost point, completely vertical rugged cliffs, rising approximately 200 ft to a dry, windy tableland. Unlike the rest of the Algarve that in the last decade turned into a highly developed tourist area, Salema is still a magic picturesque spot and its relatively small beach will certainly limit the development.
Seafood is rich here, especially locally caught clams, swordfish and tuna. There is also a variety of sporting activities such as tennis, golf, hiking, big game fishing, sailing, surfing and diving.
